Following International Museum Day, the Mediterranean Alliance for Wetlands launched a Red Alert advocacy campaign to support the local organization Guggenheim Urdaibai Stop to protect the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve from an extension of the Guggenheim Museum which would pose a massive infrastructure threat.

The campaign combines advocacy and communication efforts, with its core being three formal letters signed by 77 organisations from 35 countries addressed to UNESCO, Ramsar Secretariat and the Spanish government about the irreversible consequences that the Museum expansion would have on biodiversity, water resources, and the integrity of a protected biosphere reserve.
