Climate change risks on the Kune Vain Nature Park
The area of Kune-Vain Lagoons, along the northern Adriatic coast of Albania, harbors significant biodiversity. However, rapidly growing populations and tourism development are resulting in significant reductions in habitat and resilience, which will only be compounded by climate change impacts. Despite recognition as a region of critical vulnerability to climate change, authorities lack information about wetland vulnerability and how to incorporate climate change into decision-making processes.
Through a systematic wetland risk inventory, climate change scenario development, and capacity building for local authorities to continue adaptive management planning efforts, this project will ensure that local and national stakeholders have the tools to integrate and implement coastal wetland adaptation and mitigation measures.
