Ban Lead Now: Calling for a Safer Future for Wildlife and People
Each year, over 44,000 tonnes of lead are released into the European environment through hunting, sport shooting, and fishing. This results in the death of more than one million birds annually, widespread contamination of ecosystems, and serious health risks to people.
Safe and effective alternatives to lead already exist. Continuing its use in outdoor activities is no longer justifiable.
The Ban Lead Now campaign urges EU decision-makers to adopt a strong, science-based restriction on the use of lead. As one of the largest global markets for ammunition and fishing tackle, the EU has a unique opportunity to set a global example for protecting wildlife and public health.
