Training Sessions Aim to Reduce Illegal Hunting in Sebkhates of the Aurès – Algeria

In an effort to combat illegal hunting and promote sustainable practices, three training sessions were held for hunters in the “Sebkhates of the Aurès” region as part of the AFD2 project: “Protection and Restoration of Wetlands in the Mediterranean: Strengthening Knowledge, Protection, and Restoration of Wetlands in the South and East of the Mediterranean.” These sessions took place on May 10-11, July 22-23, and August 18-19, 2024, at the headquarters of the Federation of Hunters of the Wilaya of Batna and Batna 2 University, drawing a total of 54 participants.

The primary goals of these trainings were to:

  • Educate hunters about existing laws on hunting and wildlife.
  • Highlight the environmental, economic, and social consequences of illegal hunting.
  • Foster collaboration among various stakeholders to address this issue effectively.
  • Advocate for best practices and the adoption of conservation measures.
  • Share insights from a recent survey of hunting activities within the wetland complex conducted with local hunters on May 12, 2023.

These sessions are part of a broader initiative to protect the rich biodiversity of the Sebkhates of the Aurès and ensure the sustainable management of its wetlands.
