Training on Wetland Restoration

Training on Wetland Restoration

Right after the adoption of the EU Nature Directive, the Natural Heritage Mission held a training on ecological restoration in the coastal city of Piran, Slovenia. What a good timing! The program focused on improving the preparation of restoration action plans, the effective diagnosis of ecosystem health, and the construction of impact indicators.

The Alliance was represented by Lorena Segura  (Tour du Valat), who participated in the training to better integrate the new law requirements and other methodologies into the Green Light Protocol. Anis Guelmami (Tour du Valat and coordinator of the Mediterranean Wetlands Observatory) participated as a trainer, sharing the methods used to identify areas to be prioritised for restoration in the Mediterranean as part of the work of the Mediterranean Wetlands Observatory.

We discussed the main concepts of ecological restoration, the new restoration law, its objectives, pillars and implications for EU members and non-EU members.
