In an effort to combat illegal hunting and promote sustainable practices, three training sessions were held for hunters in the “Sebkhates of the Aurès” region as part of the AFD2 project: “Protection and Restoration of Wetlands in the Mediterranean: Strengthening Knowledge, Protection, and Restoration of Wetlands in the South and East of the Mediterranean.” These sessions took place on May 10-11, July 22-23, and August 18-19, 2024, at the headquarters of the Federation of Hunters of the Wilaya of Batna and Batna 2 University, drawing a total of 54 participants.
The primary goals of these trainings were to:
- Educate hunters about existing laws on hunting and wildlife.
- Highlight the environmental, economic, and social consequences of illegal hunting.
- Foster collaboration among various stakeholders to address this issue effectively.
- Advocate for best practices and the adoption of conservation measures.
- Share insights from a recent survey of hunting activities within the wetland complex conducted with local hunters on May 12, 2023.
These sessions are part of a broader initiative to protect the rich biodiversity of the Sebkhates of the Aurès and ensure the sustainable management of its wetlands.
