We are excited to announce the launch of the project “Restoration of North African Wetlands as a nature-based solution to improve water and food security (Restore NAW),” a project aimed at restoring North African Wetlands through regional coordination efforts best practices in Nature Based Solutions (NbS).
From 2023 to 2025, this three-year initiative represents a collaborative effort between WWF North Africa, the Moroccan NGO Association Nature Solutions, and the Observatory of Sahara and Sahel (IGO). ‘Restore NAW’ is led by Asma Yahyaoui, the Freshwater Program Officer at WWF North Africa.
The project focuses on the restoration and sustainable management of wetlands, recognizing their critical role in maintaining ecological balance, supporting biodiversity, and providing essential resources for local communities. Restoring these wetlands will not only help preserve natural wealth but also strengthen the resilience of local communities in the face of environmental challenges caused by climate change.
For a comprehensive understanding of the project, a detailed ‘Restore NAW factsheet’ is available for review here. You can also visit the ‘Restore NAW’ webpage here (available in French only).
