The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) and the Azraq Wetland Reserve have recently collaborated on two studies, one on Sarhani fish and the other on migratory birds.
Fish Survey at Azraq Wetland Reserve
The team of the Biodiversity Monitoring Center at the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, in coordination with the Nature Conservation team at Azraq Reserve, has recently conducted a study on Sarhani fish, – the only endemic vertebrate species in Jordan. Together they are identifying the suitability of the habitats and analyzing the effects of alien species on the purebreds. The results will guide the site managers in selecting the most suitable habitats and measures to ensure the sustainability of the purebred species.
Birds viral and bacterial diseases study
The second study, in further collaboration with the University of Michigan and Los Elmos National Laboratories in the United States, is focusing on the identification of bacterial and viral infectious diseases among migratory birds. By taking samples and examining them in specialized laboratories within the Royal Scientific Society, the project aims to identify infectious diseases that may transmit to humans.
