During July was published online the paper “Knowledge gaps and challenges for conservation of Mediterranean wetlands: Evidence from a comprehensive inventory and literature analysis for Sardinia” on Aquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems. The paper deals with different crucial questions as what are the most investigated topics from the beginning of the 20th century to today (see Fig. 4) and which typologies of wetlands have been mainly studied. Flora and fauna are the predominant topics, rarely the interactions between the different aspects are studied. The large wetland systems, often already protected, are the most investigated while, due to their elusive nature, temporary coastal and inland sites are unfortunately still only partly known.
